AudioBoo tune into Radio Tatras International!

When you first start with AudioBoo, treat it the same as you would when you have a new radio fitted in your car. You know the new car radio will provide you with audio. However, you may need to make some changes to the factory settings to suit YOU.
AudioBoo is exactly the same as your older in-car system, you can listen to an amazing set of Boos as they pour into your iPhone. However, you can also personalise the application to suit you.

HOW TO PERSONALISE AUDIOBOO.
There are a number of ways to find your favourite shows, or Boos, using the AudioBoo iPhone app.
To find Boos local to you all you need to do is allow AudioBoo to input your location for you.
To activate this tap the small icon on the top right of the Screen and the drop down menu (right) will appear. Simply tap on NEARBY BOOS.
AudioBoo will then, with your permission, input your geographical location and then find Boos near to you.

The example shown on the left was taken in Poprad, Slovakia. Meaning our physical location was Poprad and AudioBoo found the Nearby Boos, in this case programming from Radio Tatras International.
However, you could do the same for anywhere from Lisbon to London, the choice is yours.
Returning to the image above, there are a number of other options for you to personalise your AudioBoo experience. Featured Boos are those chosen by AudioBoo for extra exposure, Popular Boos are those attracting many listeners, Recent Boos are shown in chronological order and there is a function called FOLLOWED BOOS. To activate followed Boos you will need to make a quick trip to http://www.audioboo.fm
Once at the AudioBoo site please take a moment to register, this will help you to personalise AudioBoo even more and links to our iPhone app.

RTI on AudioBoo

Once you have completed the simple, FREE, sign up to AudioBoo (which enables you to upload your own Boos) you can then search for your Favourite Boos.
In the search box, above, we entered the name Radio Tatras International. That gave us numerous matches.

By Clicking on the latest file we came to this screen – see FOLLOW bottom left

Now it’s just a simple click of the follow button and you are following your chosen station or Boos. In this case, pictured above is the host of RTI’s PostCard From Poprad, your account would now be following Postcard From Poprad. And now you have done this simultaneously for your iPhone AudioBoo application, check out the Followed Boos on your handset .

Congratulations, you have opened your account on AudioBoo and tuned into, for the first time, Radio Tatras International digitally on the move.

The service comes from AudioBoo in London but has a clever touch that means people in Poprad will find it in there "Nearby Boos". Making the service Local Radio for Poprad and the WORLD.
RTI AudioBoos are also listed within the Featured Boos on the iPhone.

NO NEED FOR NET ACCESS! Whilst wifi is certainly the best way use AudioBoo for many, the shows play really well on a 3G mobile iPhone. Independent tests were carried out in Poprad with perfect results.

The Evening Sentinel, one of the largest evening newspapers in the UK have used a major article on the RTI show Postcard from Poprad.

The article uses a map of Poprad, and the story is also on the front page of the edition and on the Sentinel's website. The ful page article includes pictures.

The Sentinel's readership is currently at 1.1 million.

The Sentinel has also placed the RTI player on there web site, meaning those that go to the PostCard From Poprad story will automatically hear RTI.

RTI goes Stateside via a Texas based station

TalkRadioX will, from Saturday 15 August, be broadcasting PostCard from Poprad from it's base in Texas. The station, being a Talk Station, can be heard in car via it's AM outet - still a popular way of listening to speech radio in the USA. In addition to the Saturday show, Postcard From Poprad will also be heard on Sunday. The Saturday Schedule is here. The show can also be heard online.

12 June 2009, Poprad, London, : RTI, Radio Tatras International, a service created to enhance and support Anglo/Slovak relations, is proud to announce it will be supporting the FestEasy 2009.

FestEasy, ‘licensed to Chill’, is offering its visitors exhibitions, concerts from local and foreign bands, as well as DJ and VJ sets. The diversity of musical styles will be large; Alternative, Indie and Art Rock, Punk, European rock 'n' roll and artists from Russian.

Ladislav Horsky, Organisation Team, said: “We are really pleased RTI are helping us with this great event for the young and young at heart people of both the region and Europe.
“We know how important a good online supporter can be and RTI is a 100% supporter of the region and we also know a huge number of people who visit their web site to listen to the new online service.
“We are looking forward to the message of our festival reaching places all over Europe via RTI and again we would like to thank them for the invaluable support”.

Michael Allen: It's a very sad day in the World of Radio. The loss of RTI not only upsets the listeners but also the many Presenters and Producers like myself who have worked tirelessly to produce programming for the station.
I am proud to be able to say that RTI gave me my huge break into real radio. Eric and the Team showed a lot of faith and belief in myself and my Motown Moments show when they agreed to air it on RTI back in 2007 which enabled me to make the leap from tiny radio to the mainstream.
Thank you Eric and to all involved in the RTI project I wish you well with all of your future endevours. RTI will be sorly missed!

This web site will list a range of alternative quality listening to assist listeners in the coming days. The list will include fun programming stations in the UK, Slovakia and Europe and in SK the best place to hear quality Slovak music.

12 January 2009 - In what is really the first full week of people back at work, the RTI listener numbers online has reached new highs.

The week ending 05 January showed RTI online with 114,709** people accessing the channel online. Seven days later that figure has JUMPED to 121,553**

The RTI Youtube Service has seen smaller growth. Last week we reported "Video Views: 189,586", that figure has grown to "Video Views: 191,683"

05 January 2009 - In what is a slow period for online listening, the Christmas and New Year festivities, RTI has seen even more growth. Our final figures for 2008 showed 95,951 listeners.
Following the closure of RTI-FM just two of the RTI Digital services* shows the station now has 114,709** people accessing the channel online.

In addition, RTI has seem even more growth via it's Youtube Service. The RTI Channel now shows "Video Views: 189,586"

The RTI CHAT ROOM
Hundreds of RTI listeners a day are turning to the online services, operated by RTI-UK and offering English (12 hours a day) and Slovak 12 hours a day, with just one of these services now reaching 90,490* individual people.
RTI-UK has over 30 digital services available and was recently chosen by Buenos Aires-based Streema as the launch radio station globally for it’s new digital platform.
Eric Wiltsher, Broadcast Director RTI, commented: “This is fantastic and clearly shows listeners prefer the combination of Slovak and English.
“However, it doesn’t detract from the fact that those on limited financial budgets who could benefit from free English coaching, via a low cost FM radio, are no longer able to tune into English language shows and that is a great shame.
“This very week I have been lobbied by many educational establishments to re-instate the English shows on FM, many of whom are now writing to complain, and I have assured them that should the Slovak regulator allow RTI-SK to re-start English shows, as broadcast on RTI-UK, they would be on-air in hours. Until that time we can only advise people to re-tune to one of RTI’s digital services from the UK”.

The new Pages software from Streema enables anyone, even without a Facebook membership, to visit radio station pages and listen instantly to their favourite radio station. Post Office® head of travel Helen Warburton said: "With the winter sports season approaching, Slovakia is also the latest eastern European destination to offer bargain skiing and this may help to boost currency sales in the coming months," she said.

Post Office® Travel Services reports a September currency boom in its bureaux de change – suggesting a rush from the rain-drenched UK to warmer destinations overseas.Mid-haul destinations like Egypt, Dubai and even Turkey look set to benefit most, capitalising on the perception of good value and lower living costs.

During the first week in September the Post Office®, which accounts for more than 28 per cent of UK currency purchases, reported growth of over 48 per cent in sales of Egyptian pounds and almost 44 per cent more Turkish lira than a year ago.

Sales of Egyptian pounds and Turkish lira were also 36 per cent and 31 per cent stronger respectively than in the previous week - the last of the August summer holiday period. And Dubai continues to make its mark as a major league destination, with year on year growth for early September of almost 22 per cent for sales of the UAE dirham.

Currency boom
The currency boom also extends to most other holiday currencies – especially the USA, where dollar sales increased by 65 per cent against the first week of September 2007, despite the weakening sterling exchange rate.
The report also suggests that the widely-predicted drop off in demand for eurozone holidays has yet to materialise. Post Office® euro sales grew by 4 per cent year on year for January-August 2008 and accelerated in early September to a 12 per cent increase between the last week of August and the first week of September.
Meanwhile, a surprise chart-topper in the table for summer 2008 was Slovakia - the latest in a long line of eastern European destinations, led by Bulgaria, to attract UK tourists looking for lower costs. A sales increase of 57.8 per cent between summer 2008 and 2007 is part of an ongoing trend in which demand for the Slovakian koruna has risen by 161 per cent in three years.
Post Office® head of travel Helen Warburton said: "Slovakia has been a surprise star this year, benefiting, perhaps, at the expense of neighbouring Czech Republic, where sterling dropped in value by almost 40 per cent against the koruna, making this one of the few currencies to register a fall in sales - 21 per cent – this year."
"With the winter sports season approaching, Slovakia is also the latest eastern European destination to offer bargain skiing and this may help to boost currency sales in the coming months," she said.
Other currencies which have seen significant growth in demand are the Malaysian ringgit (+43.4 per cent), Chinese yuan (+30 per cent), Mauritius rupee (+22 per cent), Japanese yen (+16.9 per cent) and Mexican peso (+14.1 per cent) – all featuring, alongside the Egyptian pound, in the ten Fastest Growing Currencies and illustrating a growing trend for longer haul destinations.

CapGemini and the E.U.

RTI-UK also broadcasts to the UK and Ireland via Sky Digital to around 9 million homes. To Europe and North Africa via the Eurobird satellite.

Similar results are shown from other demographic data. However, there is a constant in that the age ranges shown are from 18-35 years old. The perfect age range for a modern commercial radio station! The range of male/female various. However, the level of female listening is very encouraging for a radio station.

A Day For Heroes will take place at the Detling Showground, Kent, on 21 September 2008. Prior to the event RTI has donated airtime to the organizers so the event details can be shared in both English and Slovak.

Jan Telensky, Managing Director RTI, said: “RTI has always been a significant support of the Armed Forces, regrettably that has often been respecting the loss of serving personnel as was the case when RTI was the only commercial station in the Slovak Republic to revert to Obit Mode following the tragic KFOR plane crash.
“However, now RTI can assist in a much more fruitful way and positively encourage European citizens living and working in the UK to support A Day For Heroes. We look forward to seeing many of our listeners there”.

Just over 3 years ago you helped celebrate the launch of RTI from Poprad in Slovakia, an initiative to bridge the gap between east and Western Europe and an opportunity to unite the people through the medium of Radio.The team behind RTI have worked hard to break cultural and language barriers that often divide the people of the world. This has been done by promoting two languages, English and Slovak through the programme schedule of the station. Many people in Poprad and Slovakia as a whole may not have access to the Internet or Satellite equipment capable of tuning into the English programmes aired on the station. They for the last 3 years have been able to tune into to their FM service, a service 3 years ago you helped celebrate the launch of.What I cannot understand is why there has been a change of heart and the forced closure by your department to force English programming of the FM service of RTI.Europe is about freedom of choice and trying to unite people, what you have done works against this ethos. As the people want English programmes then they should not be denied this. Martin J : I am struggling to understand what our goverment aims to achieve by banning english language in slovak radios. Their decision is illogical to me and sooo narrow-minded! We live in a global world today, everybody speaks english. Why can't we do so in the radio? If you don't like to listen to it, then don't do it! But ban it completely? That's just ridiculous! I thought Slovakia was a liberal and open-minded country, but this decision reminds me more of a communist china rather than a democratic EU state. With great regret I have read a message that the English-spoken programmes of RTI had to be withdrawn because of regulatory reasons: only Slovak spoken programmes are allowed furthermore.

I think it is unbelievable that in a time when a united Europe tries to come closer together, a governmental institution of a EU member country sets up these requests.

It seems to me that Slovak regulatory board decided to make a narrow-minded step, which shows little understanding of latest development. In the time of globalisation of our economies, which also blossoming Slovak economy is a valuable part of, sufficient English skills are essential. By listening to the English-spoken programmes on RTI, many young people could get accustomed to and learn English. A lot of my friends from other Eastern European countries, as well as those from "old" EU member countries love the English Programmes on RTI!

In a time of unification, this is an absolutely wrong signal to the world. Nobody looses his identity ties with his country by being able to communicate in a language different from that of his/her mother tongue. This is a signal reminding of separation and chauvinism.

One disaster was Mr Reece speaking in English for around 40 seconds, about the same time as an Australian actress did in English on a Slovak TV station without any apparent problems - actually she has done that rather a lot recently but that's OK!!

THE STORY ISN'T OVER YET, please keep going

On the left, below, Juraj Koiš 06 June 2008 writes an article which includes comment from the Slovak regulator stating that all programmes have to be translated into Slovak On the right a story from the Slovak Spectator announcing the launch of RTI via a TASR report. Click on the images to go directly to the web site of the article - they are ALL independent of RTI.

Below and left the same launch story, quoting TASR as the source, appeared on the highly respected Media Network service. The head of the Slovak Regulator is again quoted and no mention of translation, just programme exchanges - may we remind everyone this was THREE years ago! Centre is a story on TV Centrum talking about Radio Tatry returning AGAIN, dated 2004. The failed station was only saved when RTI owner Mr Jan Telensky agreed to become the majority shareholder and fund its development as part of RTI. The Project Coordinator, Mr Igor Ludma, shared with RTI that Radio Tatry had to be on air by January 2005 or its license would be revoked. Right is another story on TV Centrum about Radio Caroline broacasting on RTI FM in English, from 2005. If you haven't noticed both rti.fm and radiotatry.com carried the same pages and the same schedule showing English programmes on FM in Slovakia from April 2005.

Now to clarify things - We were all great friends when the network launched in 2005

The FM license was signed by Ms Valéria Agócs for the Slovak Regulator
and
Mr Jan Telensky for RTI/Radio Tatry.

Later the Slovak company was granted a further license for Kosice, license application prepared by Mr Igor Ludma, and was even offered another license in Presov, also preparation work undertaken by Mr Ludma, which it declined to take up. However, by this time there was a major problem with the original 94.2 FM frequency in areas of the town of Poprad. There are unbreakable technical reasons why this happens which cannot be changed. Therefore, an attempt was made to coordinate a low-power relay frequency for the town of Poprad to relay RTI. After receiving help from many people a relay frequency was coordinated. However, the Slovak company still had to apply to the Slovak Regulator to use that frequency.
The Slovak Regulator chose to award the frequency to a station headed up by Mr Igor Ludma, who had previously parted company with the Slovak arm of RTI. RTI chose to appeal to the highest Court in Slovakia and in November 2007 won the appeal.
The papers are available for viewing below. However, even after that appeal the license was yet again issued to the station headed-up by Mr Ludma in March 2008.

It's often the case that when you do something positive and new some people don't know how to handle it and the route they normally take is negative.

You can read magazines in English, order your food in English, book a holiday in English, infact you can do almost anything/everything in English. By the way - satellite and internet gives you English programming with no problems at all.

20 November , Luton/Poprad: Welcome To Slovakia and Horwich Sewing are proud to the announce the commencement of manufacturing at the new Horwich factory in Poprad, Slovakia.

The textile industry, specifically sewing, has seen job loses of around 13,000 in the past five years in Slovakia, the announcement in Poprad which will result in 200 new jobs, is testament to the ever growing business ties between the UK and Slovakia.

Luton based businessman and CEO of the multi-Award Winning AquaCity in Poprad, Jan Telensky, said,” This win/win situation was due to a team of people working tirelessly to demonstrate that Poprad, just two hours from the UK, has everything a modern manufacturing company needs.

“Initially, Welcome To Slovakia were approached and looked at ways to assist Horwich to achieve their objectives and remain in Slovakia.

“One problem I solved simply was by making available the correct premises for them and arranging the lease.

“RTI, Radio Tatras International ran a jobs creation campaign for them, for which I thank both the Slovak and UK regulators who made it possible for us to broadcast in both countries in both languages, and this resulted in new jobs being created in the Tatry Region. The RTI campaign, the station can be heard simultaneously in the UK, also informed ex-pat Slovaks living in the UK about the new opportunities. This resulted in many enquiries from the UK – one resulting in a Management position being offered and the young lady is now returning to Slovakia, a trend we hope will be mirrored by other Welcome To Slovakia projects”.

Albert Condliffe, Horwich Sewing, added, “We were almost at the point of expanding our company elsewhere in Europe when we were introduced to Poprad by the team representing Jan Telensky.

“Compared to our previous discussions, desperately trying to expand in Slovakia, our discussions in Poprad were like a breath of fresh air.

“Once Jan Telensky had resolved the problem of premises, we turned to RTI to recruit new staff to work along people we had already found – the interviews were held in a business section of AquaCity and from that more staff were recruited and trained. Already we are planning another campaign with RTI for the second phase of our expansion in Poprad and like Jan Telensky; Horwich would be honoured if we can assist more Slovaks, who want to return, to find quality employment in Poprad.

“The combination of Welcome To Slovakia and RTI is something I can highly recommend to any European company wanting to re-locate to Slovakia”.

Around 200 new jobs will be created over the next few months as Horwich settles into its new premises, from where it'll continue the production of textiles that include tablewear, protective clothing and textiles for the hospitality and hotel industries.
